Cameo Island

Cameo sits in the heart of Laganas Bay, about 2 km from Laganas resort and 10 km from Zakynthos Town. The bay is shallow, warm and sheltered, which makes it important habitat for loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) and popular with families, boat trips and beach clubs along the shore.

The islet itself is private in parts, with a beach bar and event space on the main shore side, but the bridge and surrounding water remain one of the easiest places to enjoy the bay without a long boat ride.

Until a major earthquake in 1633, Cameo was still attached to Zakynthos by land. The separation left a tiny island of pine and olive trees above a pebble-and-sand cove. The wooden bridge that links it today has become one of the most photographed structures on the south coast, especially at sunset when the bay turns gold and pink.

The water around Cameo is clear and relatively shallow near the bridge, ideal for a quick swim or paddle. On calm days you may see small fish and, with luck, turtles surfacing in the bay. Always keep a respectful distance, as this area falls within the National Marine Park of Zakynthos.
